Common questions
How many bones does a shark have?
ZERO! Sharks are elasmobranchs, meaning their skeletons are made of tough cartilage (the stuff that’s in your ears and nose). Because cartilage is less dense than bone, it gives sharks extra speed, flexibility, and buoyancy in water.
How many teeth does a shark have?
Depending on the species, sharks have anywhere from 50–300 teeth! The largest species, the whale shark, has 3,000—though not much of a bite. Shark teeth grow in up to 10 rows, constantly replacing themselves as they move to the front.
What is the biggest shark?
The biggest shark (and fish) in the ocean is the whale shark! They can grow up to 10 meters (39 ft) long, and have a mouth the size of a bathtub.
How fast can a shark swim?
While some sharks are built for speed, others prefer to coast. Great whites have been known to reach top speeds of 35 mph (50 kph), while whale sharks—their much larger, but slower, counterparts—swim at about 3 mph (4.8 kph). The fastest shark is the shortfin mako, which can dart through the water at up to 45 mph (72.4 kph).
How big is a great white shark?
Record-breaking great whites have grown close to a whopping 20 ft (6 m), though most measure 11–16 ft (~3–5 ft) in total length.
How do I clean my shark plush?
Wipe with damp sponge or cloth, using warm water and mild soap. Once dry, brush to restore the plush and proceed with snuggling.
